Racing Team

We are super excited to launch our initial season for a competitive training and racing team! The season will run from Aug 2024 - May 2025.

The PHX Run Club Team is about committing to a general training program with other goal-oriented runners, being bought in to the process and the team, and working together to support each other and ourselves in reaching for personal bests while achieving many little successes along the way. Bringing an opportunity to train at a high level to Phoenix!

Selection Process

We plan to select and send out invites by the beginning of August so we can organize our Flagstaff team camp to kickoff the season!

The selection for the team is not solely based on current ability level or PRs. It will be a combination of factors including performance, commitment, goals, PHX Run community involvement, etc.

The team will be selected by the Director, Head Coach, and 2 Team Captains.

If you have any interest at all please feel free to submit an application even if you are uncertain you will be selected or if you are unsure of your full desire.

Cost
There is a fee of $240 for the season

This includes all the benefits listed above such as team kit, team camp, team social, coaching & training, etc. This initially does not include race entries (although there will be discounts for some races) or travel race costs. However, there is potential to bring in some funding to help with some of this. The run club membership cost does go towards this fee.

FAQ

Are there any time standards?
We do not have specific time standards, but we want to make sure we have runners or groups of runners at similar ability levels in order to have the benefit of training partners. Additionally, many runners can get a lot of benefit and improve solely from coming to our free and/or membership group runs and training sessions.

How long are applications open and when will we know the decisions? We plan to communicate to all the potential runners for the team by the end of July or beginning of August so we can get the dates locked in for our Team Camp in Flagstaff! If we have more spots open we will continue to keep the applications open for this season, but you might miss the team camp :(

I see there are going to be team scheduled races for the fall...what if I already have my fall calendar planned out? That's OK! We understand this may be the case and are totally willing to work with you and your individual needs.

Can I join if I have my own coach? For our initial season this is totally acceptable. We are not fully structuring each runner's plan for every single day of the week, and we support you if you already have a coach you work with to assist you with that. We want to be able to work together without forcing everyone to completely commit to a specific training plan and schedule. HOWEVER, this is a team and someone would not be a good fit if they are always doing their own thing and never joining the rest of their teammates for runs, practices, training sessions, etc.

What if I can't make many or any of the group runs/practices/training sessions?
We understand that no one here is a professional runner and we all have responsibilities and commitments outside of running. We are definitely willing to work with people who have the desire to commit to the team, but may have schedule conflicts. The great thing about having teammates is that we can get together and run outside of our normally scheduled meeting times/days as well. HOWEVER, this is a team and someone would not be a good fit if they are always doing their own thing and never joining the rest of their teammates for runs, practices, training sessions, etc.

What if I don't get accepted to join the team?
With our club membership we will still have a general structure of training with runs, workouts, etc that will help you on your running journey and build towards your races and goals.
